My Little Entrepreneur

My son Yip LOVES superheroes! Wolverine is his favorite and he's watched XMen numerous times. So of course when Captain America and Avengers came out he wasn't going to miss the chance to see them in the theaters. 

He thought he could make a Captain America Shield. Pretty cool son. 

Then he went to the grocery store, bought a pack of heavy duty paper plates and made them all into Captain America Shields.

He's given some to his brother and sister and friends. They are especially good at repelling water gun attacks!! 

Yip decided that he needed to branch out though. So yesterday he painted a sign, with minimal help from me, and sat up business on the sidewalk. 

God Bless him!! 

Yip was outside for a couple hours in the morning and a couple more in the afternoon selling his shields. 

I want to give a big shout out to all friends and neighbors who stopped by to buy a Captain America Shield from him! Boy, did you lift his spirit. There was an older couple who bought one who I KNOW have no little grand kids to give it to. They bought it to brighten my boys day! He sold 6 yesterday! 

What a wonderful little town I live in where friends and neighbors go out of the way to encourage a little boy's creativity! 

Weeks 23 and 24 (I'm caught up!)

I went out yesterday morning determined to get all my photos for 52 Weeks caught up. I've been running around like crazy this summer and my photo homework has slipped my mind :P But I'm caught up now!! 

Week 23 - Coil

Week 24 - Stop

Yip has been making tons of these paper plate Captain America shields. (More on that later:) But I just thought it was cute how Yahoo was playing with one and pretending to stop the bad guys. (Yes, we are big Avenger fans!) I liked the stop sign behind her as though the bad guys needed another reminder! 

Next week, 25, is COLOR!! 

Sunday Devotions - Superheroes!

So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you." Deuteronomy 31:6

When we were in Taos I found this sculpture in one of the art museums. I loved it! Yes, Jesus is a superhero, the greatest superhero of all! In my mind Jesus was bold and courageous and stronger than anyone imaginable. Better than Superman!

Every evening at bedtime the boys and I read the Bible. Recently we upgraded from a preschool Bible (which we had read straight through 4 times) to a grown up Bible. Yet, over the few weeks reading it I realized it was too much for Yip and Yap to comprehend. I wasn't doing an adequate job of conveying the might and power of Jesus and of our God. They can inhale Batman and Spiderman stories all day long but how can I get them to realize that Jesus was even greater than these masked crusaders?

In steps Superhero Grandma! She sent us The Action Bible for Easter.

It's graphic, bright and eye-catching and reads like a comic book.

And this isn't a comic book for little kids. There are some scenes of violence as in Samson destroying a temple. In Revelations a terrible dragon is depicted. There are also numerous times when great fear is shown on the characters faces through the Bible.  

The artist does a fabulous job throughout the book keeping to the true essence of the Bible, through words, while  visually presenting the stories in a way that greatly internalizes the meaning.

Jesus on the Cross. For hundreds of years many artists presented Jesus as thin and frail. How could he have been thin and frail? He was a carpenter who used his body everyday in his work. And he walked everywhere! Jesus was athletic and strong. Through the artist's definition of muscle we are not only shown his outer strength but his inner strength and boldness as well.

Superheros never fail to save the day. But the greatest Super of all is Jesus who's superpowers are beyond our understanding. Finally, a way to show my boys the power and might of our Redeemer.

Thanks You Lord for Your Superhero Jesus and the might of Your words throughout the Bible. Help me bold today and grant me strength. Amen.
