Freaky Art

Artists are freaks.

No doubt about it...artists think on a totally different level than other people.
I think of myself as an artist, maybe not too freaky but still somewhat artistic. I can appreciate beauty and creativity in a lot of different types of art.

Like Lady Gaga! I just love her artistry. She's weird no question about that but I still can respect her as an artist while at the same time being just a bit freaked out by  her.

I like sharing freaky art too. Here's a couple I ran across recently.

Isn't that a gorgeous wreath?
Yeah, I'd hang that in my house.
It would make a wonderful autumn decoration don't you think?

Eeewwww! Made with human hair?
I pull hair out of my brush all the time but for some reason a wreath made of human hair gives me the willies?
Why? I don't know....but now I feel like the wreath would be better on a grave marker than a wall. But I gotta give it up to Mrs. George Stauth...she was pretty resourceful!

Sooo...beauty is...death? Is that what the artist is saying here?
Foreshadowing to Botox perhaps?

The 2nd Annual Last Day of School Haircut

Last year the boys asked me if they could give each other haircuts.

"Sure!" I said, "But on the last day of preschool." And they proceeded to mow one another's hair until the only remedy was a CLOSE buzz cut.

Yesterday was Yip and Yap's last day of kindergarten and they had planned for a week to continue the tradition and have a last day of school haircut. Yip wanted a Mohawk. Yap just wanted it buzzed close.

And so they began as soon as they got home.

With a bit of guidance Yap started in on Yip's Mohawk.
He's serious too, like Edward Scissorhands.

A clip clip here and a clip clip there....

We did this in the garage where the boys found DR's Jeep mirrors quite handy for checking their progress.....constantly checking their progress.

Yap is just about done with the Mohawk. Don't worry, I'll trim it up so it's at least somewhat even!

Now Yip's turn to start on Yap. Unfortunately Yap wasn't at all impressed with his brother's barbering skills and soon decided to take over and do his own haircut.

What a handy mirror that Jeep has!

He got a whole lot cut off despite the fact he couldn't see what he was doing!

With a few quick swipes from my clippers....

....two pretty presentable summer haircuts. Mohawk and all! How long will it be, do you think, before they want to start dyeing their hair on the last day of school?

What is your end of school traditions?

Hairstyle, Coiffure, Pompadour

The hair....this hair....

....her hair....always in the eyes...

...in constant battle with Momma...

...but finally....I think I may have conquered because....

...we have a new do'!
Her hair is finally long enough for the double pony tail. It's keeping all the hair out of her eyes.

The mane is tamed...for now.

Marker Monday - BEWARE!!! Haircuts!

When I started this blog I tried to designate Mondays' posts as a time to share some sort of an activity that other people could do with their kids or grandkids. I've posted art and science projects and games. Fun stuff.

I am not advocating that you should let your kid proceed with the following activity. Without your permission of course!! This is not for everyone but it works for us.

Yap has been asking for WEEKS if he could cut his hair. Not if I could cut his hair. He wanted to do it himself. So early one morning when I knew we wouldn't be going anywhere Yip and Yap went at it in the front yard.

Tentative at first. A little snip here.

A small snip there.

But pretty soon there was a full fledged barbershop in the front yard.

They took turns drawing blood from one another cutting each other's hair.

Look at the intensity. Wow! I don't think I'd let my sibling do that to me.

Kinda looks like they were attacked by lawnmowers doesn't it?

Ah well, it's just hair after all...it'll grow back. Besides it's probably better that I let them on a day I could fix it rather than find this mess some Sunday morning before church or something!
