There is a pick your own orchard nearby that Yahoo and I checked out the other day. We had a small orchard when we lived in southern Indiana about 4 years ago. That was one of my favorite houses.
I came away with 85 lbs. of Gala apples, the first 20 lbs. were free, oh so sweet!
Yahoo was the official taste tester.

Yum...Apples!! Applesauce, dried apples, apple pie...hhmmm...Thanksgiving is going to be yummy this year!
yay for apples:) looks like a fun day:) enjoy
ReplyDeleteDo you can your apple pie filling? I'm gathering recipes for this treat so I can compare and put together the best of everyone's recipes! We froze about 6 quart bags of applesauce over the weekend between running here and there. A lot of apples go in to those bags. It's kind of like shelling peas! ;-) We haven't picked the first apple; I'm just taking the best off the ground and feeding the really icky ones to the cows for some more "apple-flavored beef!" ;-)
ReplyDeleteI don't have time right now to do much canning. And we have a pretty empty freezer so most of my apples get frozen...at least this year.
ReplyDeleteYes! So excited that September brings apple season!!!! :)
