Sunday Devotions - Thank God for the Harvest

Here in Kansas we are beginning to get into the full swing of fall harvest just like the rest of America's corn belt. I know many of you with gardens are probably just about done with your harvest. (I'm envious by the way, I didn't have a garden this summer.)

For our family, fall grain harvest means late nights and weekends without seeing DR because he's working. Often he leaves home by 6:30 and doesn't come home till 9 or 10 in the evening or even after. Even though we aren't farmers DR works just as long as they do getting the harvest stored at the grain elevator or coordinating trucks to haul grain.

Harvest is a stressful time for many across the country who have to deal with machinery breakdowns, weather, long lines at elevators, little sleep, missed meals...all kinds of struggles. But these obstacles will soon be past and harvest will be safely stored away.

Harvest reminds me of this passage in the book of Psalms 104: 14-15

He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for man to cultivate- bringing forth food from the earth: wine that gladdens the heart of man, oil to make his face shine, and bread that sustains his heart.

No matter our occupation, I think we should all be praying for the farmers this season and all year long. For they are the tools that God uses to bless us with nourishment. For without the farmers where would be? Hungry and naked! So pray for a farmer today that he, and we, may have a bountiful harvest.

Dear God, Thank you for the farmers and all those working in the agriculture industry. Bless them this harvest season and all year long. Amen.

I'd love to hear what you have to say! I try to reply to every one of them.
