A rather horrendous drawing....

I've been working on this drawing for the last couple weeks on and off as I worked the Milo Pastel.

All I can say is this drawing is horrendous...but, I'm not going to censor my progress for you all. If I'm going to draw again I'm going to share the successes as well as the failures because I can learn from them both.

I love the sky here but the windmills weren't planned. I had originally planned on putting a lone tree where the largest windmill is. Long story short; it didn't work and I had to disguise some mistakes....hence the ugly black windmills. There isn't anything else I can do to this drawing but start again. The thing about pastels is you can only work so many layers before the paper won't accept anymore and the surface gets slick. Well, at least on this paper. I'm sure some higher quality stuff would be more forgiving of my mistakes.

Any hoo, chalk this one up to a learning experience and then forget about it and move on.

  1. At first I thought the windmills were plants of some kind. (Our windmills are mostly white, but you would be amazed at how many people think they are gray or a shade of black. I have to tell them that the "color" comes from the sun hiding behind clouds!)

Hang in there. We all have those days when we don't like what we do or say or write or make or create.

  2. I love this picture! You are so talented Heather! I wish I could only do a fraction of what you do!!

  3. Lana, when I tried to fix my mistakes I thought an organic/abstract type of windmill would look neat but it didn't turn out nearly like I hoped it would. We have windmills here too (and back in Fowler, IN!!) and I've always enjoyed watching them "change" colors!

I'd love to hear what you have to say! I try to reply to every one of them.
