Sunday Devotions to share with your children - Ruth and Naomi

I try to make Sunday a day of rest and reflection. But as any mother knows sometimes that can be difficult when there is always laundry and dishes piling up around you along with endless errands that need to get done. As I try to model Sunday as a day to honor God in our house I thought it only fitting to do the same on my blog. So every Sunday I will post a devotion that you can share with your children. This one is from Bible Devotions for Bedtime by Daniel Partner.



One day Ruth said to Naomi, "Let me go out into the fields to gather leftover grain behind anyone who will let me do it." Ruth 2:2

Ruth was very poor. You can see this in the way she got her food. She gleaned behind the reapers-the people who cut grain used to make bread. To glean means to gather up the leftovers. IN those days, reapers left some grain at the edges of the fields. Some grain dropped along the way. A gleaner picked up this unwanted grain. today, some very poor people search through dumpsters for food that has been thrown away. they could also be called gleaners.

Poor Ruth. she was young and unwanted. Her husband was dead, and she ate what others didn't want. She had only one thing going for her. She had attached herself to Naomi - a child of Israel and a believer in God.

Naomi was the mother of Ruth's husband. there in Israel, she had a relative named Boaz. Ruth happened to be gleaning in Boaz's barley field. Boaz fell in love with Ruth and began to take care of her. This was his blessing to her: "May the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge, reward you fully." This blessing comes to people who seek shelter in God.

Dear God, Thank You for blessing people who seek help from you.
