Sex Education for 5 year olds!

Last week, during cartoons, my 5 year old twin boys ask me, "Why do boys have penises?" and "Why do girls lay babies?" Lay a baby?? So your mother is a duck now? Simply and quickly I explained the process without too many details and one of my boys replies, "But Mommy, you and Daddy never showed us how to make a baby?" I was speechless...and trying not to laugh out loud at their serious little faces. Luckily we were headed to the library that day where I stumbled across this book. "It's So Amazing!" A great book for kids all about sex and babies...and laying babies!

Here's the author.

Anatomically correct illustrations, yet bright and eyecatching for little kids.

Aaawww..the egg and the sperm, where it all gets started. Aren't they cute? Yap has asked me to read this page at least 5 times this week.

And baby in the birth canal. He almosts looks comfy and happy doesn't he?

But seriously this book is packed full of information about reproduction and birth and written with in mind with the thoughts and questions kids have. I would say it is written more for older elementary children but it could easily be used for younger or older children too. Heck..I teenagers could benefit from this book. For me there are many subjects like abortion, miscarriages, birth control, etc. included in the book that I'm not discussing with my 5 year olds. But I am definitely buying this book to have for the future.

The best part of reading this book with my sons was when one turned to me and said, "Mommy, I'm NOT going to put my peenie (penis) in a girl until I'm married!" Phew!! What a load off my mind. Do you think he'll still have that opinion when he's 16?

  1. I saw this the other day and I loved it! Girls lay babies-- LOL-- I showed it to your mom and dad and they (specifically your mom) laughed until she had tears in her eyes!
